When we talk about wall art, we can often fall prey to viewing art as merely decorative. So what is the real difference between commercial decorative art and original art, and why today is the difference important for businesses to consider?

Commercial Decorative Art is generic, stock visuals that mimic the idea of art.

It’s purpose? To not stand out or be noticed, but to blend in. It fails to tell a story and engage people. It is, inherently, an empty image.

Why? Mass-produced art follows overarching trends that quickly become outdated and are replaced by the next. Trends tend to lack distinction and longevity, two things we crave in a space. They signal to us: this place was created with care, is worthy or trust and is here to stay.

On the other hand…

Original Art, like paintings on canvas and hand-painted murals:

  • Can be site-specific—designed for your wall, your context, your audience.

  • Reflects identity and personality, not just surface-level decoration.

  • Creates memorable impressions, not visual wallpaper.

Why It Matters:

Decorative art is made to blend into the background, while an original mural has the power to stop people in their tracks. It becomes part of the place’s identity, not just decoration. That’s why brands, cities, and venues invest in custom murals—to differentiate, attract attention, and spark engagement.

Original art isn’t just some accessory, it’s a business and community asset. It’s the difference between a space that looks like every other—and a space that people talk about, photograph, and remember.

When you choose to purchase custom art, you’re choosing impact over ornamentation—turning walls into landmarks that say:

This is our brand. This is our culture. This is our community.
