When people talk about wall art, they often use the words “decorative” and “art” interchangeably—but there is a meaningful difference that matters for your space.
Commercial Decorative Art is generic, stock visuals that mimic the idea of art, but fails to tell a story or connect with people. It is empty.
This type of art rarely sparks a conversation. It follows overarching trends that will be be replaced by the next novelty. In short, trends lack distinction and longevity, two things we tend to crave in a space. Without this, spaces can lack the signal of ”this place was created with care, is worthy of trust and is here to stay.”
On the other hand…
Original Authentic Art, including paintings on canvas and hand-painted murals:
Can be site-specific—designed for your wall, your context, your audience.
Reflects identity and personality, not just surface decoration.
Creates memorable impressions, not visual wallpaper.
Why It Matters:
Decorative art often blends into the background. A mural with original design stops people in their tracks. It becomes part of the place’s identity, not just something on the wall. That’s why brands, cities, and venues invest in custom murals—not merely to decorate, but to differentiate, attract attention, and spark engagement.
Original art becomes an asset rather than an accessory. It’s the difference between a space that looks like every other corridor or street—and a space that people talk about, photograph, and remember.
When you choose authentic mural art over generic decoration, you’re choosing impact over ornamentation—turning walls into visual landmarks that say:
This is our brand. This is our culture. This is our community.
About the Artist
Hi, I’m BLKBYRD. I specialize in bold, illustrative scrapbook-style murals that are reminiscent of 90s zines with a twist. My art is designed for the spaces they live in and the people they live with. I bring structure, communication, and thoughtful design to every project. Whether it’s a small storefront or large public wall, my goal is always the same: create work that feels intentional, beautiful and built to last.
